This short video walks through my Home Network Upgrade to 10GbE for 2020.  Hardware, Networking, and Software are always evolving so there always seems to be a need to upgrade to keep pace.  Add to this that I no longer store any data locally on any system, and all of a sudden 10GbE starts to make sense.  When you start to consider centralized storage, protecting and accessing your data becomes much easier as you only one place to deal with.

The video will cover all the specifics about the upgrade and will include some links if you want to check out the items.

Was it worth it in terms of performance?  In a word yes.  To get 500-1G per second depending on which device you are copying to/from is extremely useful when moving files around, editing, cataloging photos, videos, or music.

Was it worth it in terms of price?  Absolutely.  Given that I did this a little at a time, it was less painful on the wallet.  The biggest expense is your switch and your cabling.  If you shop around you find a decent deal on a switch and they are coming out lower-cost models all the time.

This may not be for everyone however you should consider it when you are replacing items and get ready for the future.  Do it one piece at a time.
